Epiphone versus Gibson?
okay, i've been looking around for information on the Epiphone Les Paul Prophecy (see link below) and according to the reviews, it sounds like its better than a Gibson Les Paul as people say. but im not sure if its really THAT good. i've never played it before or seen one in person but my friend owns a Gibson Les Paul Studio that plays really well. people say that it plays even better but i dont know if thats really true. what do you guys think? anyone own this epiphone?

your help is appreciated =]
Epiphones are made by Gibson essentially. Epiphones are not made as well hence they are cheaper. The wood is not the same quality nor are the pick ups or wiring. If you want a long lasting, nice sounding guitar, and it must look like the Les Paul, go for gibson, frankly I prefer the fender telecaster but one thing to remember with guitars, You get what you pay for. Epiphones are not horrible but I have owned a few and a few Gibsons, Gibsons are way better all around, quality, sound, life, etc. If you are starting out as a player, get the epiphone, most ppl give up within a year, if you are already a vet of the stage, get the gibson. IMO, your best bet is to go try them out at a music store. I would never buy a guitar online without playing the exact same guitar in the store first.
Hope this helps, sorry to say, epiphones are pretty poor quality when it comes to guitars. They may say Epiphone by Gibson but that is where the Gibson ends and the Epiphone begins.
If you are that concerned with price, look into a brand called Ibanez, very good guitars for not a lot of money, and for your own sake, go try the guitars out at your local musical instrument shop, pawn shop, or friends house.

18 years of guitar playing professionally and as an amateur enthusiast. Playing many different styles of guitars, and owning around 20 fenders a gibson sg and an epiphone les paul. As u can see, i prefer fender, but gibson is also top notch.
