Levin Parlor Guitars – Part 1
On July 27th 1900, Herman Carlson Levin began building his wonderful stringed instruments in a small workshop in Gothenburg, Sweden. My great passion is collecting these instruments that, to my eyes (and ears), were some of the finest guitars ever built..
Certainly, many people today know of Levin for its fine old arch-top guitars or its plainer and not quite so fine-sounding beginners' instruments from the 50s and 60s.
But long before this, Levin was top of it's class in Europe and other parts of the world. It already achieved a high-point as an instrument maker at the 1907 World's Fair in Madrid, where it won the gold medal for the best guitar. Remember, this was in the Spanish guitar builders' home territory. Not only that, Levin was awarded the exhibition's Grand Prix!

Wow! Many thanks …
Wow! Many thanks for your very swift reply. Thanks your expert advice- means a lot. I’ve been looking at regular parlors too, as you suggested. Would you have any to recommend that are in a starter’s budget? Something new or something vintage? Perhaps off of ebay? Thanks again! Ever get to LA or to the midwest USA? I’m goin to see Catfish Keith in Iowa City on Friday.

Hey RamblerCustom!
I’m very happy to hear those nice comments on my music, thanks a lot!
Well, a Miniolian is truly a great traveller’s companion, it’s light weight and sounds really cool. Sturdy too!
I guess a small bodied parlor size like these would be fine too..
Good luck and keep checking back this way!!

Mr. Bottleneck. …
Mr. Bottleneck. I’ve been searching for the perfect starter to carry around with me to learn some bottleneck and finger picking blues. Naturally I ran into your stuff and have been amazed by the spirit in your music. Any recommendations for a first blues travel guitar for me? Been looking at a Republic Miniolian. Any guidance would be wonderful. And thanks for the inspiration man.

Hi John….nice guitars….and they sound amazing!
I work as a Ships Agent here in Halifax Nova Scotia and we look after the Atlantic Container Lines (ACL) vessels coming from Gothenburg to Liverpool to Halifax etc and one of the European port calls is Gothenburg and most of the crew are from there as well so I guess I will have to be asking some of the crew if they could find me one of these fine examples of a guitar..
Thanks
