As far as I’m concerned a Fender would be the way to go but if you don’t want to get one try some of these:

Hagstrom
Caparison
These are just some lesser known brands that I’ve tried but they may not be for you.

You’re more likely to get the sound you want from a fx pedal. For that funky sound, you might try out one called a Phaser.
