What do people mean by a ‘real’ telecaster (electric guitar)?

G =] asked:

I have a vintage (cheap!) telecaster, and someone just asked "is that a real telecaster?"

:s! Is it?

“Real” in this context means made in USA (as opposed to Japan, China, Korea, or Mexico).

Coretta

exactly as average mike said - A “real” telecaster is the American made Fender version.

Brooke

A real one would have the brand name Fender on the headstock. Fender is the original “real” manufacturer of Telecasters!
