What kind of electric guitar should I buy?

Right now I'm playing acoustic, and I'm a beginner, but I definitely want to get an electric guitar once I'm good enough. I've seen a couple really cool looking ones at vintage stores, but would getting a new one be better? Also, which brand is best?

I’m partial to my fender stratocaster squire. It was cheap and it came in a starter kit. If I ever get any better I will get an actual stratocaster. There’s a few colors for it too. That’s my opinion, and if your asking for it, les pauls and SG’s don’t really apeal to me. If you want big and fancy though theres a company called ilbanez (not so sure on the spelling) that makes some cool showy ones. Go with the style you want and I would go with a new one though considering the other older ones may be a little worn and last a bit shorter. It also depends on what you want to spend too. I would just go to your local guitar center and see what they have. They’ll let you get the feel of them too and that’s where I bought my kit thing and I’m happy with it. You’ll make the right choice though on what style you like. Also do some lookin on youtube, I use that for almost all of my researching before I buy and you can check consumer reports too. Good luck!

If you are a beginner, the last thing you should do is consider buying a vintage, (as in old – not the brand…), guitar; it’s a definite minefield out there and, unless you know what to look for, you have a better chance of ending up with a crap guitar. Older guitars usually require higher maintenance.
A new guitar would definitely be a better choice. As for brands, that depends on the style you are drawn to, although manufacturers tend to make a range aimed at different styles, each manufacturer is generally known for a specialist type of guitar.
Squier are a reasonable brand, but unless you go above their starter packs the quality can be, at best, patchy. Any “Stratocaster” type guitar will offer good versatility, but might be lacking in “grunt” for really heavy stuff.
Ibanez are great for rock / metal. Their quality control is second to none and are consistently high quality. Not terribly versatile, however as they can be a bit lacking on the tone front.
If it were me, (by the way I work in a guitar / music store…), I’d buy a Yamaha Pacifica 112 guitar and a Line 6 Spider 3 15 watt amplifier to start with. This is without a doubt the best value for money gear you can buy, at entry level and the whole lot would come to around £250.00.
The amplifier has four channels, bags of distortion and built in digital effects. It’s really simple to use and sounds great.
I’ve actually used a Pacifica in a studio environment and it was a pleasure to play. Sounded like a much more expensive guitar, too.

Tough to say, exactly how “beginner” are you? A used squire strat was my first electric and it got the job done. However, I got jobbed on it, as I paid way too much for it. Look into pricings on new models and find whats available in your area. will give you a great place to find any guitar out there and what it should cost. Also, if you decide to go with a new guitar, I would go with a brand called Schecter, very classic style, high end features, low end price. I think their models start around $200. I have the C-1 Classic ~$700 and its better than any $2000+ PRS, or Gibson I’ve ever played.

I started up with the hollow guitar 5 years back and all i know about it was made in burma 2 years back i bought yamaha electric guitar thinking of i might not gonna enjoy electric so was not willing to spend much. Its been 2 years now and i am very happy using it with Boss ds2 distortion paddle
Its not about brand its about how you play just like your handwriting not the pen.

Whatever you do DON’T get a squier. they are horrible. i recomend starting with an epiphone les paul and upgrading if you really like playing electric guitar. Ibanez is good but more only if you will be playing hard rock/metal and etc. on it. Fenders are pretty much all around. I dont personally like gibson but many people love SG’s and Flying V’s and stuff like that. It really depend on what type of music you want to play.
