I purchased this used in 1980 from my Uncle who sang in bars in Northern Michigan. It's mint and quite unique, yet to see another Les Paul copy that looks like this one.
You might want to take it to a local guitar luthier "Repair shop" They should be able to tell you about your guitar, or point you to someone who would know.
Howdy, I recently got my hands on a Peavey Deuce VT combo hybrid amp (SS preamp, tube post) purchased by the original owner in about 1980. It sounds really nice, and I'd appreciate some help with a few matters:
Firstly, it came without its footswitch and I would very much like to get one so that I can utilize the amp to its fullest, and does anyone know where I might be able to get one, as I'm having trouble finding one?
Second, the knobs aren't in great condition, are they able to be replaced relatively cheaply?
Third, it was recommended to me that I replace the tubes with 'Russian' tubes, how do I go about doing this and any estimates on cost?
Fourth, it was also recommended that I get the SS preamp replaced with a tube preamp, so the same for this as above, how do I do this, and any price estimates?
Fifth, any suggestions on how to get some good sounds out of this, clean, overdriven, good pedals that go with it, any sort of thing that might help would be much appreciated!
I'm still breaking this amp in, so any tips or hints people would care to give will most assuredly be very much valued, so thanks in advance for all of you who answer!!
You can get the footswitch on ebay. You can get knobs too, any knob style will work, just get a style you like.
As far as the tubes and preamp, go to your local music store and check the prices. I believe this amp uses 1 12AX7 tube which runs around $12. You or a buddy could change it out by taking out the power section and doing the exchange. It's as easy as changing a lightbulb. The rest the music store can do.
I have a rockin vintage-style guitar equipped with lipstick pickups, and I am planning on getting a custom humbucker pickup built inside of the lipstick casings. Will the casings hinder the tone, especially for hard rock and metal?
I'm not exactly sure I understand what you're doing. You have a lipstick cover and want to put a humbucker inside of it?
Your sound will largely depend on the windings and the magnets, not quite as much as the physical size of the humbucker or the casing that it's in.
I take that back. The size will matter, since less size = less windings, and less windings means in a general sense less output and more treble.
Your end result will *probably* be a midway point between single coil treble and humbucker chug. Your output will be lower than Invaders, that's for sure, but not necessarily much less than Evolutions or Duncan Distortions. Kind of depends on the magnets - alnico magnets will give somewhat lower output but a more vintage/smoother sound (think more Slash or AC/DC) for rock, vs ceramic magnets that tend to be hotter but more trebly and brittle (think more like most any modern hard rock or metal band).
I'd do it. A good amp will help deliver a quality tone anyways.
If you're really worried about output, put an onboard preamp in it. That'll give you a hotter tone, if you want, and may give you the ability to EQ and stuff like that.

This guy wants $3500 for one, but it seems to be in mint condition.
They aren't crappy guitars.
