I don't really wan't to spend £200 on an Epi when I could get the Vintage for only £120 but if the Epi is genuinely way better i'll get it.

P.S. Don't tell me to try them in a shop to see which I prefer. I Can't try both in a shop because all the guitar shops near me don't sell Epiphones.

P.S.S. If you know of any companies that make SG copies which are better than Vintage but less expensive than Epiphone, please tell me!

Save up for that Epiphone. My friend bought a left-handed VS6 and it had a buzz on it that would not go. He lent it to me and i tinkered with it for a few days and two of the saddles ended up cracking. Epiphone's are much higher quality. Tokai do an SG at £200 pounds so i'd give that a go. And where do you live because i could suggest some shops to visit.

2006 ‘57 Reissue Epiphone Les Paul Junior

So I bought a guitar today, somewhat of an impulse buy. I saw it the other day when I was looking in town at the vintage shop. It's a Epiphone Les Paul Junior '57 Reissue. Equipped with a bigsby....that was the kicker for me.

After having loan of an original '59 TV model I knew I wanted a Jr, but couldn't see myself spending 1K+ on a new guitar, and could never afford a vintage one. I like the way the epiphone feels, has the big neck I like, its a set neck of course, so no, its not one of those crappy Junior Models they have. It's setup great, plays excellent, and hey, its a P90. It's got the sound down. Solid mahogany body and neck. It was only made for one year. Also its labeled as Epiphone Custom Shop.

One cool thing about it is the guy that had it before me seemed to have set it up as a player. The back of the neck was refinished/sanded down to remove that glassy finish, so now its nice and smooth, really nice feeling.
Also after reading up on it, it was originally equipped with a P100, I'm not 100% but I'm pretty sure this is a replaced P90, also saw people raising up the pickup so it gets closer to the strings.........he's done that too, its nicely done added a spacer, can't really see it unless you look right up at it. So yeah, this has all the slight mods that make it that much more of a player, I'm really happy with it. Especially for what I got it for $ wise.

Which of these guitars should i buy, and why?

Ok, here are the options:

1) Epiphone Les Paul Standard
2) Epiphone Les Paul Custom, alpine white
3) Epiphone Les Paul Standard plaintop
4) Epiphone G-400
5) Epiphone Vintage G-400

I love all of these guitars I just need to choose one. Please give good, clear answers telling me which one to get and why it's better than the others.

I agree with the first part of Buster's answer. With epiphones it's kind of hit-or-miss. Some will give any gibson a run for its money, while others will need some work and a setup to play nicely (and once and a great while, they'll be bad enough that you have to exchange it where you bought it).

However, if you're a beginning player (which i'd guess from your question?) i strongly advise you DON'T spend a lot of money on a gibson. Not yet.

I've been playing (and collecting) guitars for 20 years, and my epiphone LP Classic is one of my favorites. I like it better than most of my expensive ones. So you can get some truly awesome epiphones.

Also note that the Epiphone LP customs are no better than the standard (or Classic, if you can still find them) models, and are definitely not worth the extra money. You're simply paying for a prettier guitar.

If you can find a Custom for about the same price, go for it if you like it. But if it's much more expensive, just go with the Standard.

With the G400, I'd strongly recommend getting the Vintage one. I believe the neck profile is a little thicker (i only played the vintage once), so you may want to try them both out first. But otherwise the vintage is basically identical, and $100 cheaper! (mainly, I'm guessing, because of its finish) They'll feel slightly different, but sound identical. But try them out if you're in doubt, or if you're picky.

Now deciding between the LP and the SG isn't something you can decide based on practical differences like the ones i listed above for different models of the same guitar. This decision is all about your own personal taste.
The SG looks and sounds a little more hardcore rock, but isn't quite as versatile. A LP can give you a much wider range of sounds, but won't ever *quite* give you that SG growl (but it comes darn close). Then on top of this, they both each have very different physical feelings to them (mainly weight). You really just have to try them both.

I know this isn't the answer you're looking for - but I can't tell you "pick <x> guitar". My recommendation is either the Vintage G400, or the LP Standard, for purely practical reasons. You need to decide for yourself whether to get an LP or SG though.

Epiphone Valve jr. demo Les Paul Special

Based on some questions from my older 3 vids of the jr. I wanted to show how the amp could clean up by lowering the guitars volume. Didn't clean up much though with the humbuckers--single coils will clean up quite a bit. Also am showing the amp with some effects. Sparkle drive(clean boost off and gain half up), a Boss DD-5, and a Boss BF-2 Flanger.
At the start there is No effects. Valve jr. set to near full volume at 3 O'clock. I start with bridge pickup set at low volume like 2, then half way up, then full.
At some point I switch to neck pickup and then the middle position. At at that point I step on the sparkle drive and then the delay and flanger.
At the end of the vid I roll the amps volume down to less than half and also use no effects.

The cab is a 1x12 mesa with a vintage 30
