Hello, I am a 10th grade high school guy. I recently became interested in guitar playing. I used to love the game guitar hero very much, but it seems I want to take it one step further. I have beaten every song on guitar hero III except "the devil went to georgia" on expert (yes that includes through the fire and flames), and I have a real interest in guitar. What is a good beginners electric guitar that costs less than $250. I do not plan on buying another guitar, this will be my only one. I mostly plan on playing in my room, occasionally with my friends, and maybe at my church youth group some (I will never be doing actual rock concerts and that stuff). I like alternative music, some metal, and christian rock. Here are some guitars I have been suggested:
Standard '90s Fender (NOT SQUIER) Stratocaster HSS Mexican made with amp and all (I know that is over $250, but my friend is selling it to me with a $100 amp and hard case for $350. Lightly used but taken good care of) Is it worth that much?

I would prefer to get a pack with the amp and everything, but I heard rumors that they are not too great. Please post if you have personal experience about any of these guitars/starter packs or you are a shop owner and could give me some good advice. Remember, I can't go over $250 and I am only getting this one guitar.
Also: One more question after that. I have heard that guitars under $200 bucks and in starter packs usually do not last longer than a year. What do they mean by "not last"? As in does it not play any more? Does it fall apart or does it drop in quality? What is the life of a regular guitar? "Lasting-longness" is a high priority in my decision so keep that in mind. Thanks.
Another note: I am a beginner. I would go to a local music shop but I do not know how to play at all, thus being unable to try out guitars.
One more thing: I heard that Les Paul Special II strings are crap and snap on the first day. If you have any imput on this, please, do.
One more thing: I hear the affinity series of Squier stratocasters are crap. Please put your imput on this.
I should have posted this before, but allow me to explain. I mentioned Guitar Hero in my description to give a little about why I became interested in guitar. NOT to brag and say that I am going to be a guitar legend, because anyone can play a guitar with 5 frets and 1 string.
i already answered this question for you
get the Mexican Strat
don't repost a question when you have like 5 good answers already
Which of these is best?
SG Special
G-310
G-400 Vintage
G-400 limited alpine white
G-400
G-400 '66 Reissue
G-400 Deluxe
If you have the answer, could you name some better tuners, pickups for alternative rock, or something of the sort, or is stock all I would ever need if I got one. Also, what makes this the best Epi SG?
Well the G 400 series are the best in your list.
The regular and Deluxe or the alpine white, would have the best pickups in them, and have Grover machine heads for tuning.
don't even think about the SG special. piece of crap.
The 310 has a bolt on neck. Also not the greatest thing.
What you want is an SG with a "set neck" It provides better sustain and tone.
The Vintage is the best of the cheaper ones. That one would be OK.
The Deluxe looks interesting with the sunburst maple finish, but other than that is the same as the others G-400's
The Alpine whites look pretty cool too.
stay with the G 400 series and you'll be happy with it.
I myself have the Epiphone 1275 Doubleneck SG and it plays and sounds very nice.
im trying to make my guitar looke nice
got no idea, just try it.
Hi I'm modifying my squier affinity telecaster, the reason why I'm doing this is because the wood is a keeper so I am basically changing everything else on the guitar. Which leads me to a couple of questions.
Does a vintage tele three saddle bridge work on my squier even though its a topload not a string through?
Do vintage fender gotoh tuners fit on my telecaster?
PS: I know people are gonna say its not worth tunning up a squier, so if you are one of those don't bother answering. Anyways the wood on my telecaster is alder and maple which is good wood for a tele, admittedly not as good as ash and rosewood but it works. My goal is to turn this squier into a Fender Telecaster with a humbucker (like keef). With all new bridge, tuners, pickups, switch, neckplate and knobs.
I also wanted to ask if it is possible to make a topload bridged telecaster into a string through.
I'm playin Tele's since '69. If the neck has never twisted on you, then invest. But if the neck constantly bows, buy a Mexican. My neighbor upgraded a Squier Tele, and lived to regret it. I only use Tele's with the 3 saddles, and I love them. You may have to drill new holes, or something.
Teles are either CBS ones, or newer Mexican ones .
I also have as Esquire
Lots - o - luck
I'm looking for a left-handed acoustic, electric or natural. But it's hard to choose.
So I found the Dean Performer E and the Ibanez AEL10LE. Which do you think is better? I've read almost all reviews you could find but I still couldn't decide...
It depends on how much you want to spend. Martin makes most if not all of their models lefty on special order. If you have more money to spend, Collings and Santa Cruz will make you a lefty model.
